The short version
- Selling alcohol to anyone under 18 is illegal. Alcohol deals are 18+ only.
- Some municipalities ban alcohol price promotions in bars and restaurants. There, Flits offers no discount on alcohol.
- Elsewhere a table deal may include alcohol, but never as an alcohol-only deal with more than 25% off, and never "unlimited drinks".
- Takeaway deals never include alcohol.
- ID may be requested. The venue checks your age.
1. Why this policy?
Flits helps venues fill quiet moments with great deals. Alcohol is part of a night out, but should never be the reason to drink too much. That's why Flits applies stricter rules than the legal minimum. This policy applies to guests and venues and forms part of the Terms of Use and the Partner Terms.
2. What does the law say?
- Dutch Alcohol Act (Alcoholwet): selling or serving alcohol to anyone under 18 is prohibited. A venue must establish someone's age unless it is clear they are 18 or over.
- Municipalities may, under the Alcohol Act, restrict or ban alcohol price promotions in hospitality. They do so in a bylaw, usually the APV (General Local Bylaw).
- Example: Amsterdam bans happy hours and other alcohol price promotions in hospitality. A table deal with a discount on drinks is therefore not allowed there.
- Dutch Advertising Code for Alcoholic Beverages (Reclamecode voor Alcoholhoudende Dranken): alcohol advertising must not target minors, must not encourage excessive drinking and must not suggest that alcohol leads to social or sexual success. Flits follows this code in all its marketing.
3. Rules per municipality
Our team records for each municipality whether alcohol price promotions are restricted, based on the APV. That setting determines what venues there can offer:
| Situation | What's allowed on Flits |
|---|---|
| Municipality with a restriction (e.g. Amsterdam) | No table deals where the discount applies to alcohol. A "whole bill" discount automatically becomes "whole bill excluding alcohol". |
| Municipality without a restriction | Alcohol may be part of a table deal, subject to the rules in section 4. |
4. Rules for all deals
- Never an alcohol-only deal with more than 25% off.
- Never "unlimited drinks" or similar offers.
- 18+ confirmation: you can only claim a deal that includes alcohol after confirming in the app that you are 18 or older. You do this once; we do not store a date of birth.
- Your ticket says "ID may be requested". Bring valid ID.
- Takeaway deals never include alcohol. So no age check is needed at collection and there is no distance selling of alcohol.
- No push notifications about alcohol deals before 16:00.
- No promotion of excessive drinking in deal texts, photos or reviews. Our text filter checks for this.
5. What we expect from venues
- You remain responsible for age checks and for complying with the Alcohol Act, your licence and your municipality's APV. The 18+ confirmation in the app does not replace your check.
- You do not serve alcohol to anyone who is (visibly) intoxicated.
- If a guest cannot show valid ID, you may refuse to serve alcohol. The rest of the deal (for example the food) still applies. This does not count as "deal not honoured".
- Your deals and photos follow the Advertising Code for Alcoholic Beverages.
- Breaching this policy may lead to a deal being hidden, a warning or a suspension (see the Review Guidelines & Moderation and the Partner Terms).
6. What we expect from guests
- Only claim an alcohol deal if you are 18 or over.
- Bring valid ID; the venue may ask for it.
- Drink in moderation. Don't drink and drive.
7. Reporting
Spotted a deal that doesn't meet this policy? Use the report button on the deal or email info@nafite.com. We'll handle your report under our Review Guidelines & Moderation.
Enjoy responsibly. 18+ for alcohol.
