Allergen Information

Version 2026-10 · last updated 6 October 2026

The short version

  • Every takeaway deal shows, before you buy, which of the 14 EU allergens it contains ("contains") or may contain ("may contain").
  • For a surprise bag, the venue lists every allergen that could be in it.
  • The venue is responsible for the accuracy of this information and for food safety.
  • For table deals: ask the staff about allergens.
  • Something wrong? Report it in the app within 24 hours. For acute symptoms: get medical help first, call 112.

1. Why this information?

When you buy food online, you must be able to see the mandatory food information, including allergens, before you buy. This is required by Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011, Article 14. That's why allergen information on Flits is a mandatory part of every takeaway deal, always shown before the "Buy" button.

This page is general information. It is not medical advice. If you have an allergy or intolerance, follow the advice of your doctor or dietitian.

3. "Contains" and "may contain"

  • Contains: the allergen is an ingredient of the product.
  • May contain: the allergen isn't added deliberately, but traces are possible, for example because the same kitchen handles it (cross-contamination).

Example of what you'll see: Contains: gluten, egg, milk · May contain: nuts.

If you are highly sensitive, treat "may contain" as seriously as "contains".

4. Surprise bags

With a surprise bag you don't know exactly what you'll get. The venue therefore lists every allergen that could be in the bag. In doubt? Better not to buy, or ask the venue before you do.

5. Flagging your allergens

In your taste profile (Profile → Taste profile & allergens) you can flag allergens from the 14 EU allergens. If a deal contains a flagged allergen, it is highlighted with a warning icon. For a takeaway deal, you then tick a box before buying to confirm you've read the allergen information.

Please note: highlighting is an aid. Always read the allergen information yourself.

6. The venue's responsibility

The venue offering the deal is the seller and the producer or preparer of the food. The venue:

  • enters the allergens for every takeaway deal and confirms them for each deal (we log when and by whom);
  • is responsible for the accuracy of the allergen information;
  • is responsible for food safety under the Dutch Hospitality Hygiene Code (HACCP), including chilling and shelf life;
  • ensures the food is safe to eat until the end of the collection window.

Flits makes sure the information is mandatory and visible before purchase, but does not check the products themselves.

7. Table deals

With table deals you eat at the venue and order from the menu. Allergen information isn't always in the app. Ask the staff about the allergens in your dish. The venue must be able to give you this information.

8. Something went wrong

  • Acute symptoms (such as swelling, difficulty breathing, fainting)? Get medical help immediately or call 112. Reporting to us comes after that.
  • Was the allergen information wrong? Report it via Report a problem on your order, ideally within 24 hours after the collection window. Add a photo if you can. Our team will contact the venue. If your complaint is upheld, you get your money back and we take action against the venue under our Review Guidelines & Moderation.
  • You can also report an error on a table deal, or on a deal you haven't bought, using the report button on the deal or venue.

Your statutory rights always remain unaffected.
